Little Darlings, by Melanie Golding, is a similar type of story. And it would be hard to top with a new version. ![]() Yes, the cinematography dates it and the special effects, well, those are dated too. You must watch it if you haven’t seen it. Rosemary’s Baby, made in 1968, starring Mia Farrow is such a harrowing film. ![]() However, it appears to have received lackluster reviews so let’s ignore it. But when I googled it, it appears there was a 4-hour mini-series re-make in 2014 starring Zoe Saldana. How is it that they have not re-made Rosemary’s Baby? Which is what I was going to ask because I don’t remember a re-make. ![]()

![]() ![]() Janie is attracted to Caleb but can she trust him? And will he trust her? Caleb covers for her when she has dream episodes, but he has his own secrets. She gets to know Cabel Strumheller who ' had been trouble in school since ninth grade' and has a reputation as a pothead, but looks very different now. She reveals Janie's developing friendship with Carrie Brandt - who moves in next door and suffers regular nightmares - and her dislike of rich girl Melinda Jeffers whose clique constantly picks on Janie.Īt seventeen, Janie works after school and on week-ends at Heather Nursing Home, where she befriends blind Miss Stubin, who tells her, ' You have more power than you think.' She buys her own clothing and food, saves for college, and acquires a car that she calls Ethel. The author introduces us slowly and surely to Janie's dream-sharing and what it means to her as a child, and as she matures, in terms of her understanding those around her - and knowing too many of their secrets. Janie lives in poverty with an alcoholic mother who is on welfare and has little presence in her daughter's life. ![]() ![]() When others notice, they assume she's catnapping or is zoned out. In Lisa McMann's beautifully written Wake, seventeen-year-old Janie Hannagan struggles with a talent that can pull her out of her waking life and into other people's dreams at any time of day or night - if someone in her vicinity is dreaming, Janie shares it, willy-nilly. ![]() ![]() ![]() Those who had read it, would love to discuss! I personally would love to even see a movie simply based around the hotel chapter!!! I wish this could be adapted to a mini-series by HBO or Starz! It would be great to see the events unfolding told from different character POVs. Quick overview, it is in an interview format just like World War Z and it's about a fictional theme park and its surviving employees stranded in it after a hurricane hit and flooded it. In addition to that convenience, a paperback edition is usually a bit cheaper if you’re looking to save money.Īdditionally, it’s a testament to the story and Karen M. For those who either don’t enjoy hardcover books or just wanted something more portable, this new paperback edition is a much better choice. ![]() One Of Us Is Lying in paperback is a massive deal for readers everywhere.Īs I said, One Of Us Is Lying was adapted into a series and thus, it drove up sales. ![]() In particular, Delacorte Press made a major update to it which is publishing it in paperback for the first time ever.Įventually, One Of Us Is Lying became the start of a new series but it is still one YA thriller that’s remembered by readers fondly and is still being picked up by readers now which shows why this update is necessary. Upon its release in 2017, the book was massively popular and as I said, eventually spawned a TV series.Įven though the TV series is now over, the book still lives on and is still being talked about. It’s actually based on a YA novel by Karen M. Most people might recognize the title as a now-canceled TV series. ![]() Some books tend to get a second wind and one major example of that is One Of Us Is Lying by Karen M. ![]() ![]() ![]() It’s not really romance (except for the last book, which does have a satisfying hfn romance), not really erotica (there’s a lot of sex but it’s not that graphic or sexy, imo), it may be triggering to some (both because of the non-consensual dream sex and because one of the main characters was abused as a child), but I’m mentioning it because I enjoyed it. The series is a rif on Harry Potter – if Harry Potter went to college in the US, had a lot of sex (both magical and mundane), and lived in a more morally ambiguous world. ![]() It’s a crazysauce series – I gobbled it up, but I also have reservations about it, especially book 3 (there’s non-consensual dream sex in it and not enough consequences for the offender, imo). Since others have mentioned SF/F books, I’ll mention Cecilia Tan’s Magic University series, especially the 4th and final one (The Poet and the Prophecy) – with a few caveats. ![]() ![]() ![]() IF YOU WISH TO ORDER PARTICULAR VOLUME OR ALL THE VOLUMES YOU CAN CONTACT US. I have much more distance from the story. I didn’t give the book a careful read that first time. Yes, all we were talking about were pieces of the book and the book publicity. I still hear about my unforgivable betrayal. I was among the critics, and that fact rained Feldman’s and other people’s anger down on me. Some tried to criticize Feldman, and some saw this criticism as a betrayal. I too was a cauldron of hot-headed opinion and “taking sides.” Soon, there were fault lines among ex-Hasidim. Everyone was talking about Unorthodox, raving, ranting, attacking, defending, calling her a James Frey or an Angela’s Ashes-fussing it all the way to the New York Time’s bestsellers list. Not before or after have I seen so much to-do about our little niche world of defectors of the Hasidic faith. When Deborah Feldman’s memoir hit shelves in 2012, all hell broke loose. ![]() |
